Interesting note on ASA ACLs
Welcome back!
I was spending some time this evening looking at the new ASA 8.2 configuration guide. It prompted me to pose this question:
On an ASA running 8.2 what is the address that you would specify in a “Standard” acl entry?
Just found that interesting and thought I’d post about it. I don’t teach many CCNA classes anymore but recall pounding in the information on standard ACLs matching on the source address. Sure makes it hard for a newcomer to keep things straight.
Also, note

It’s also interesting that they seem to be moving towards much more flexibility and modularity in configuration, vis-a-vis using “real” IP addresses in NAT now, expanded object groups, etc.
Still not sure what the heck all the extra memory is for. How much you want to bet I place my order later today for all of the upgraded memory kits I need, and they’re back-ordered for 90 days?
Still, some nice improvements in this upgrade.
